Hello Everyone,
Here are the activities that we have available this week. Also, it has come to my attention that many of the new (and old) members of the club were unaware that we also have a blog website with all of the club's information. It contains a contact list of the presidency, a monthly calendar of upcoming IWFC events, a living guide of local restaurants/shopping/grocery stores/apartments/etc.., and we also take pictures at many of our events and post them on the blog for all to see. Thunderkids Activity
Wednesday, 3/23, 10AM,Fire Station 159 - 17159 N. 63rd Avenue (63rd Ave and Bell Road)
We will be doing a tour of Fire Station 159. Please meet there at 10AM. It should be lots of fun.
Committee Meeting

We will be planning the closing social and the last month of the trimester. All are welcome to come help plan. Kids are welcome as well.

We have been asked to forward out information on Lemonade Day. This is a city wide event available to kids ages 5-17. Thunderbird students will be teaching mentor classes on March 26th and April 2, 2011 from 9 - 11:30AM. Lemonade Day is a free, fun way for children ages 5-17 to learn business and leadership skills. Lemonade Day introduces kids to entrepreneurship! This citywide event encourages kids to start a lemonade stand and sell their lemonade to the entire community. Schools, community groups and businesses get involved to make this all happen. Lemonade Day is Sunday, May 1, 2011. Participating youth put up their stands at their chosen locations throughout the city and sell lemonade to the community. At the end of that day, children will often open a savings account for the first time. They are also encouraged to give a portion of their earnings (all of which they get to keep) back to the community in some way of their choosing. Finally, there are three contests the children can participate in - Best Tasting Lemonade, Best Stand, and Best Business. The Mayor of Glendale will be at the Best Tasting Lemonade contest to hand out the prize (tickets to a baseball game or signed baseball memorabilia) to the winner. The winner might even get to be on TV!
Some of the business skills the children learn revolve around investors, business plans, product pricing and sourcing, marketing, location of stand, employees, etc. Each child that signs up receives a free backpack with an Entrepreneur's Workbook and a Parent's Guide. These books help the child work through the necessary steps of setting up and running a business.
Additionally, just for Glendale participants, the students from the Thunderbird School of Global Management are teaching Mentor Classes to any participants who would like to come. The classes will incorporate hands-on learning about the business plan, marketing, pricing and sourcing. Interested participants should sign up for these classes when they register or online at http://glendaleaz.lemonadeday.org/. The classes are free, will be held at the Thunderbird campus (59th Ave and Greenway) on March 26th and April 2nd from 9-11:30a. Each child need only attend one of those Mentor days.
